I read the first edition of this book about 13 years ago and recently purchased 4 copies of this updated revision. One copy is for myself for a refresher and the other 3 copies are to give to couples as gifts that need some assistance in personal financial planning--This is how much a believe in this book and its guidance. I have been following David Bach's advice since I finished reading his first edition of smart couples finish rich....mind you, this was my kind of reading while sitting on the beach in Cozumel with my wonderful husband of just one year. Being newlyweds and young double (reasonable) income no kids rather fresh out of college, we had a great lifestyle, but saving and investing was not a huge priority at the time and neither of our parents offered any advice or guidance on that front. I will never forget turning to my husband and saying this book has our guiding principles on how we need to be running our finances and I need you to please read this because we are going to follow this! He read it and we discussed it in rather deep detail on our next vacation a few months later (he was living overseas at the time). Fast forward 13 crazy years (plus one beautiful son, one terrible bear market and one great bull market) and we are there. We identify ourselves with the FIRE (look it up) community at this point in our lives and it only took us 13 years through careful saving and investing and following the principles David outlines. We can't thank David enough and maybe one day I will email him and tell him our full story. He's a mentor to me and doesn't even know it. I have also read other books by David Bach through the years, such as smart women FR and automatic millionaire and I had given my parents the start late FR book. For all the couples out there considering this book, please read it and follow his advice...pay yourself first and control the latte factor. It will pay off x10!

Love these books, helped me get on track as a beginner in managing my own finances, fun to read. Good for relationship and opening communication on finances, very important to touch on early on. You gotta (for me) be open about finances, and responsible. This book will help you get started, and operate more efficiently and effectively at mid-level as well. Not advanced regarding different types of debt and it's management/ie leveraging debts.

New and updated. Read this book many years ago. Loved it then and its been updated. It is clearly written in non financialeeze. David Bach is my favorite financial author. Read most of his books. What i love it he uses real world examples and writes in language that almost anyone can understand.

Slightly older book from early 2000s some things have changed in the financial industry that could use some updating but the overall principles of the book stand true and could be useful to any couple who want to make more sound financial decisions.

I love how specific and to the point David was in this book. I am taking all of his advice to heart. As I get ready to marry the man of my dreams, I feel excited knowing that we will both be on the same page. We will have had the "uncomfortable" talks that so many couples opt out of having. We will know exactly what we desire from day 1. Thank you for putting it in an organized manner. The worksheets are gold, and go perfectly with the "pre-marital packet" I designed for myself and my fiance ;).

Bought this a gift for friend and he is always telling me what to do with my money. Now that he is the know it all. Lol. He tries to get me to change my ways. But he is doing great.

I read the first version and love the updates. Highly suggest putting the money dates on you and your spouse's calendar and sticking to them.

Along with some other materials specifically related to saving, investing, and financial planning, I thought this would be great place for him to start. It's a relatively quick, easy read in plain English, and good for individuals of varying backgrounds. It arrived as scheduled, on a Sunday, and I'm definitely satisfied with the purchase and vendor experience.
