Excellent book. Like most newbies to machine embroidery, I was misdirected by the sales pitch when they demonstrated how you can "easily import any image and the software will generate the embroidery file". Yeah right...I have learned so much from this book and have already improved my embroidery designs. All of the other books that I have read on the subject still apply, proper placement, stabilization based upon fabric, etc., but what this book made clear to me that all the proper technique in the world won't save a poorly digitized design. Tired of the obscene number of jump threads, the birds' nest underneath, bullet proof stitching? Then you must get this book. The author has been digitizing designs since WAY before the computer became involved and that background provides the insight necessary to truly understand the mechanics of machine embroidery. Buy this book, you will not be disappointed.

I was very hesitant to purchase this book because of some of the negative reviews. However, a family member suggested that I get the book to help out with my new found desire of digitizing. She actually suggested that I get it BEFORE I get a program, but I did not wait on the program because I wanted to start testing designs right away. That is probably why I found this book helpful. There is a lot of terminology and descriptions in the book that someone that has very little knowledge of embroidery would find extremely confusing. However, since I had already been playing with my program and trying to figure things out before I got this book... it was easier for me to understand what was going on. Of course, if you have been embroidery for any amount of time then you will understand a lot of what is being said.I want to make it clear that I did not start embroidering until May 2015... and I am writing this review in the beginning of June 2015. So, it does not take too long to start learning the process. I agree with what some of the other reviews say about needing to know a little about digitizing to understand this book, but there are a lot of free demos out there that you can try out before you get this book and it would most likely help out. I highly doubt that you will be able to get this book and be able to figure out how to digitize without trying it with some kind of software. All digitizing of embroidery designs will require software and not just a regular program that comes on your computer. (I saw questions like that when I was researching embroidery machines so I thought I would mention it.)Something else that is extremely important that was mentioned in this book is that many people tend to buy a program that the manufacturer of their machine tells them to use. After looking at and testing many different programs, I can comfortably say that some of the programs by the machine manufacturers are a huge rip off. They are limited on what they can do and often times are triple the price of a different software program. So, make sure to shop around for whatever you are looking for so you don't end up having to buy upgrades, additional plug-ins, or the completely wrong software for your work.I have gone back to this book after digitizing a design (I jumped right into super hard designs so I am having more problems than someone who would probably start with something simple) and have found a lot of the information helpful. My first attempt was pretty good and now I'm working on just fixing a few problems here and there with the suggestions in the book. I agree that the auto-digitizing features on most programs are not the best, but they are a good start if you have never digitized before. If the "by hand" part of things in this book is confusing or overwhelming, then try out an auto-digitizing feature and go from there. I spend hours on a design before I even get to test it the first time around so this process isn't something that you will be able to do in just a few minutes!

Mr. Deer has done an excellent job with Digitizing Made Easy. This fills in many blanks left out of the many tutorials I've watched and read. I look at his book as what should be the jump off point. He not only gives examples, but actually discusses the whys and wherefores. An excellent book I would recommend to anyone starting their journey into machine embroidery.

This book is well written and very informative. It will not teach you to use a specific digitizing software, but it will teach you what you need to know about digitizing to be sucessful whichever software platform you use. The examples in the book are clear, consise and I have had several ah-ha moments reading it. Even if you don't want to digitize your own designs but just edit a few designs, this book would be very helpful. Even though this book was printed over 12 years ago, the information in it is still very relevant so I would recommend this book. If you are an embroidery digitizer, this book should be in your library.

When I received this book I intended to just flip through it and read it later. Well I didn't just read it I devoured it. I had so many AHA moments while I was reading, it really explains why things are done the way they are. I liked that it didn't just say do so and so or try so and so. but really explained why machine embroidery is done in a specific order, and why the direction of the thread or the pattern of the stitch matters. It also made suggestions to make your decisions easier like make 2"X2" samples of the fill stitches so you know what they will look like when you use them on your machine. Now WHY didn't I think of that? If you intend to do your own digitized designs this book is the best reference.

I am a novice so this was an educational read for me. It came with a new CD disc of 20+ designs that are Adorable and adaptable. Added it to my sewing reference library and will re-read again as needed.

If you are interested in learning to digitize embroidery designs, this is the perfect book to learn from. The author shares his knowledge with step by step instructions and pictures.

Learning so much with this book! The designs that come with it are far superior than any others I have used. Kinda helps the machine embroidery digitizing all make sense as to why some things work, and some things don't.
